Full Job Description

You'll work within our Research team, but spend most of your day with our Germany country team. You'll split your time between understanding how changes to our global product land in Germany and conducting larger research projects specifically aimed at the German market. You'll report into the Senior Research Manager and work particularly closely with our Product Design, Product Management and Proposition teams.

The things you'll do

  • You'll work with the Germany country team to shape the research agenda for the German market.

  • You'll conduct primary research directly with German consumers, using a range of techniques. In particular you'll be comfortable with User Experience testing and Quantitative methods.

  • You will be the person evangelising for the German consumer and helping others around you really understand what dog owners in Germany value and how they think.

  • You'll feed into the product roadmap for Germany, and escalate those ideas when they have implications for our core product.

  • You'll help structure the insights you find, and help others to make use of them through a mixture of workshops, presentations and written communication., You've got native fluency in the German language. Enough that you can make consumers in the market feel at ease when conducting interviews and understand the cultural nuance of what they're telling you.

We are looking for a savvy German research professional to lead our Research Team and help drive our push into the German market. You'll work closely with both cross functional teams and squads to drive forward our company strategy. As a D2C subscription business, in an emotive category, people love talking to us about their dogs. We need your help to make sense of what we hear and synthesise insights that will help drive our strategy to change the world of pet food for good., Experience of using a range of research techniques to solve business problems. You'll know both how to execute qual and quant research, how to choose which one and how to make sense of the results together. You can explain how to manage bias, how to qualify respondents and how to ask the right questions.

  • You'll know how best to reach the German consumer and what some of the best tools and platforms are for that market.

  • You've worked in consumer facing brands and can draw on past examples of telling the difference between what consumers do, say, and think.

  • A clear & engaging communicator, comfortable working directly with analysts, engineers, product teams, and marketing teams. You know how to tell a great story.

We're tails.com, a dog food subscription company with a big difference. We create truly tailored food for each and every dog we serve. We start by asking people a few simple questions about their dog. Then we use that information to create their dog's unique tails.com recipe - so their dog gets exactly the nutrition they need, in the taste they love, delivered to their door every month. It's clever stuff.

  • We've got bold plans. Having created an entirely new category in pet food, we're now scaling fast in the UK and Europe - backed by Purina, one of the world's largest pet food companies. You'll join a bunch of smart people working towards the same goals - and a bunch of smart-ish dogs, all working on their own thing.

Together, we'll change the world of pet food for good.

    Research at tails.com

The research team is at an inflection point. What's got us to where we are is strong User Research practices, a deep understanding of our existing customers and a close relationship with our product and design colleagues. As we mature as a business we're now starting to look more and more at the world outside of our existing customers, and how to integrate more with market research and trends in the wider industry. You'll be an integral part of this growth.

We're also at an inflection point for our German proposition. You can buy tails.com in Germany, but much of how it looks and feels is driven by the UK product. We know we can do better and we're looking for someone to help shape that through a deep understanding of the German dog owning consumer.

The research team sits within our Proposition and Brand function and works closely with a whole range of teams across tails.com. That includes being involved in changes to our brand and identity right down to understanding how long time customers experience specific aspects of the digital and physical product. We play a vital role in helping individuals at tails.com make informed decisions, driving the continued success and growth of our business.

    Build our brand

We're building an international brand, fast. We set ambitious goals. We challenge and support each other in equal measure. At the pace we're moving, we prefer to test ideas and learn quickly rather than spend months building a business case. That means we celebrate when things go right, and we learn when things go wrong.

Sound like a team you want to join? Here's how you'll make a difference

    Competitive salary, reviewed annually.
  • Annual bonus, based on company performance.

  • Flexible core hours, giving you true work life balance.

  • Expected at least 1 X Day in (Richmond, London) Office per week

  • 25 days of holiday (excluding bank holidays) which increases over time to a max of 27 days.

  • 9/10 day working week to enhance your wellbeing without a reduction in pay and leave allowance

  • Optional 5 days unpaid leave and 1 paid volunteer day each year.

  • When you need a change of scenery, you can work from abroad 2 weeks every 6 months

  • Health insurance for you, paid by tails.com (starting mid 2023)

  • Extended maternity, paternity, shared parental and adoption pay. 6 months at 70% pay

  • Flexible paid care leave to support immediate dependants, people close to you and pets.

  • Electric car lease, through a salary sacrifice scheme

  • An external financial coach to support a range of topics - debt management, savings and investments.

  • Vet service - to support with all pet related questions.

  • In house L&D team, with access to year round courses to help drive your development.

  • 50% discount on all tails.com and 40% on Republic of Cats products.

  • Discounted gym membership.
