Full Job Description

Reporting into the Principal Technical Support Engineer you will ensure that customer product and procurement support engineering
needs are identified and supported for a wide range of products and services within national and overseas markets. This role is
supplier facing and you will be expected to make engineering/technical decisions with suppliers on behalf of the customer and
Unipart Rail. You will need to evaluate and mitigate risk at an appropriate level in line with company process and procedures.

Main Responsibilities:

Technical Service Delivery

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the supply chain derived engineering projects for the UK and targeted overseas

  • territories.
  • Ensure that all technical support engineering activities meet industry standards, safety and legislative requirements.

  • Assist in the management of product based warranty issues to improve fleet performance and reliability.

  • Assist in the identification and development of new products and services with customers including engineering support and

  • obsolescence management activities.
  • Attend regular supplier facing contract and technical meetings to represent Unipart Rail technical support services engineering

  • Assist the technical support manager to deliver and implement new products and services for the TOCs, ROSCOs and other rail

  • Assist the Technical support manager to support develop and maintain processes and procedures associated with the support and

  • delivery of Unipart Rail business needs
  • Use KPI performance data to identify and prioritise poorly performing products and implement clear and timely improvement plans

  • for the benefit of Unipart Rail and its customers.
  • Attend technical meetings with Unipart Rail stakeholders to investigate technical/engineering issues raised with Unipart Rail

  • supplied parts or materials and develop timely and robust solutions for improvement.
  • Assist in the project management of product and service driven initiatives to benefit Unipart Rail customers

  • Manage obsolescence projects on behalf of the business.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within Unipart Rail, and with customers and suppliers

    Relevant Engineering qualification (HNC / HND level) or equivalent experience

  • Experience of engineering, safety and operational requirements

  • Ability to work at all levels within the business and ability to influence and communicate

  • Organisational skills

  • IT literate

  • Full UK driving licence (as travel to customer and supplier sites will be required)


  • Desirable Criteria

  • Experience gained in the Railway industry, or a comparable safety critical industry.

  • Understanding and knowledge of Rail products and approvals

  • Project management skills
