Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated, dynamic, hard-working Band 5 Staff Nurse, who is able to work flexibly and use their own initiative to work within our busy Ophthalmic OPDs covered by Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, and to be involved in the day to day running of the department. The post holder will be rostered to work early/ late shifts and also Saturday and Sunday as required.
This covers the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, Sandwell Hospital, Tower hill Partnership and has the potential to expand to other areas as service needs develop., Checking visual acuities using various test types
Checking baseline observations :- Temp, BP , Pulse, BM , ECG's
Managing a caseload of patients in a timely manner
Carrying out pre-operative assessment
Performing a variety of diagnostic tests such as Biometry, Pentacam, Auto refract and OCT's
Administration of medication in a variety of forms for eg., Oral, Intra Muscular and Intra Venous
Performing phlebotomy and cannulation procedures

We have a variety of general and specialist clinics running every day in the department including intravitreal injections and pre assessment clinics. Experience in an ophthalmic setting is essential and evidence of leadership skills would be desirable.
