Full Job Description

As the Rig Build Technician, you will assist the Engineering teams in building and servicing Test Rigs at a world class R&D facility in Sonning, UK. You will optimise the layout and routing of electrical hardware and cabling within new rig builds, ensuring functionality and ease of maintenance are achieved.
Furthermore, you will work and liaise with both the Mechanical and Controls engineers on various projects, ensuring all work results in safe equipment paying particular notice to the leak tightness of pipework, and the integrity and safety of all wiring.

Your responsibilities:

  • Wiring test equipment to engineering drawings

  • Point to point electrical cabling including plug and socket termination

  • Sketching suitable brackets panels and parts for manufacture within the Engineering Workshop

  • Electrical Circuit checking

  • Building Rig Frameworks

  • Low level rig design

  • Maintaining standard parts documentation

  • Project lead for small projects

  • Specification and initiation of purchasing of parts and equipment

  • Ensuring drawings are updated to "as built"

  • Determining the optimum location and then mounting instrumentation, valves and other rig components.

  • Calibration of Instrumentation

  • Interfacing Instrumentation to PLCs and DAQs

  • Liaising with both the Design teams and the Mechanical Engineering Workshop

  • To carry out any other duties that are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

  • Carry out all duties with regard to both legal and site Health & Safety requirements.

    An understanding of P&ID Circuits

  • An understanding of Electrical Schematics

  • Experience in Rig or Machine build following engineering drawings

  • Experience in Rig, Machine or Panel Build point to point wiring

  • Experience of Rig or Machine pre commissioning testing (Desirable)

  • Experience in electrical trouble shooting of machinery (Desirable)

  • Experience in building and developing automated test rigs or machines. (Desirable)
