Location: Flexible within the North East of England
35 Hours per week
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: GBP 14,226


About the role
This is an area wide post covering our 3 offices in Newcastle, Sunderland and Stockton. We are seeking a motivated, proactive individual to join our busy service. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our work in the North East of England supporting refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants.

The overall purpose of the role:
Providing efficient and reliable administrative and support functions, such as answering the telephone, post (incoming and outgoing), photocopying/filing/archiving, ordering stationery, maintaining the petty cash and banking
Managing small pieces of project work under the direction of the Service Manager
To update beneficiary files onto the electronic database system (BRM)

About the team
The Red Cross supports refugees in a wide variety of ways, such as offering emergency food and clothes to those facing severe hardship and offering friendly advice to the most vulnerable.

Services include:

  • Orientation support to help vulnerable and newly arrived refugees adapt to life in a new country
  • Destitution support for refugees and asylum seekers who find themselves cut off from Home Office support or welfare benefits
  • Support for young people and refugee women, including one-to-one social and emotional support to help women to access their basic rights and rebuild their lives
  • Practical care and support in emergency large-scale arrivals


About the person
Experience of administrative duties; dealing with the public in person, on the phone and via email, photocopying, sending faxes, filing, maintaining computerised and manual records
Experience of working within financial processes
Experience of working with confidential information
Experience of dealing with colleagues at a variety of levels
Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers
Knowledge of IT, especially Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint
