Full Job Description

Following the decision by NHS England, the future Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) for very specialist cancer treatment services for children living in south London and much of south east England will be transferring to Evelina London Children's Hospital, part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT).

The PTC programme is now in a pivotal moment transitioning from the consultation and decision-making process to the planning and operational delivery of the clinical service transfer. As we move to the next phase of the programme we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join the team as a Programme Director - Governance and Risk.

We are seeking a proactive, agile and collaborative individual with a passion for healthcare to join us and take forward the delivery of an ambitious vision for the future of care for children in south London and much of the south east of England.

The Programme Director will be responsible for the Governance and Risk portfolios of the programme, and will be pivotal in ensuring that the programme is delivered to the highest standards of governance.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record delivering programmes in politically complex and sensitive environments, a comprehensive understanding of the NHS, and extensive experience working across Trust Board of Directors, systems and partnerships to influence, collaborate, set and deliver ambitious yet achievable goals.

  • Support the SRO and wider leadership team acting as a conduit for information and intelligence flow between key stakeholders, playing a vital role pulling together the complex strands across the internal and external landscape.

  • Provide and receive highly complex sensitive or contentious information where there are significant barriers to acceptance which need to be overcome, using the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills such as would be required in communicating in a hostile, antagonistic and highly emotive environment.

  • Oversee the planning and delivery of the programme's governance and risk management, working closely with the SRO and other Programme Director's across the Operational and Clinical workstreams.

  • Work across systems and partnerships to influence, collaborate and set ambitious yet achievable goals.

  • The Programme Director will lead the day-to-day delivery of the programme management office and administration functions of the programme.

  • Responsible for the programme budget, financial planning, monitoring expenditure and reporting in line with the Trust's Standing Financial Instructions.

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK's best-known hospitals - Guy's, St Thomas', Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield - as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high-quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation.

  • We are among the UK's busiest, most successful foundation trusts. We provide specialist care for patients including heart and lung, cancer and renal services as well as a full range of local hospital and community services for people in Lambeth and Southwark.
We have a long tradition of clinical and scientific achievement and - as part of King's Health Partners - we are one of England's eight academic health sciences centres, bringing together world-class clinical services, teaching and research.

The post holder will report to the Chief Nurse (Programme SRO).

A job description is available, which sets out the detailed responsibilities for the role, together with the key relationships.
