Full Job Description

The role of the Project Manager is to take full ownership and responsibility of all elements of the project management process, from inception through to implementation, delivery and final sign off. All projects are required to be delivered in accordance with VIRTUS project management process, to agreed timescales, budgeted costs and the required quality levels.

As a Project Manager, you will be required to support the project delivery team with day to day issues, remove blockages to progress, and regularly report to the Programme Manager on progress.

As Project Manager you will be responsible for providing regular updates to the Programme Manager, compiling weekly reports and ensuring compliance to the project management PMO process. The Project Manager will utilise the escalation process as and when required in order to mitigate project risks and maintain project programmes.

The Project Manager provides the main point of contact throughout the lifecycle of the project for all internal and external stakeholders and ensures the successful handover to VIRTUS Operations on final acceptance. Health and safety is always regarded as the top priority and should not be compromised with a focus given to driving continual improvement in this area.

Working closely with the Programme Manager, VIRTUS Design team and external design consultants, the Project Manager reviews existing project demands, capturing and quantifying the objectives to produce project plans, programmes and deliverables.

The Project Manager promotes and maintains the core values of VIRTUS Data Centres, acting as an ambassador for the organisation., Act as the Project Manager for construction works across the portfolio of VIRTUS Data Centre projects. Works will include the following:

  • Management of Health and Safety of the works across all Data Centre projects

  • Ensuring that the project scope is clearly defined, capturing the objectives and project brief, minimising variations, scope creep and cost increases

  • Co-ordination of works to ensure timely delivery of the project including liaison with the construction team, contractors, external resources and the site FM team

  • Preparation, submission and tracking of all necessary changes via SNOW and acquiring approval and sign off via the CAB for works to proceed

  • Responsible for ensuring completion of final commissioning with support from specialist teams (external or internal) prior to handover to Operations Team

  • Preparation of snagging lists and management of closing out of items

  • Formal handover to VIRTUS Operations team at project completion

  • Providing Project Management support on any additional works carried out on other sites where necessary

  • Management of project costs in line with approved business case

  • Regular reporting on progress of project to the Programme Manager

  • Management of external consultants and third party supply partners required to deliver the project

  • Liaison with and progress reporting to VIRTUS Customers and the Programme Manager

  • Obtaining quotes from 3rd parties and raising internal Purchase Requisition

  • Any other reasonable requests made by your line manager


  • What success looks like in 12 months' time:
  • Projects Delivered on time and on budget

  • Customer Success/feedback gathered and results collated to show continuous improvement over the period

  • Adherence to all aspects of the Project PMO

  • ALL Project PMO audits to achieve minimum score of 75%

  • ALL Project Health & Safety audits to achieve minimum score of 80%

  • No incidents or accidents on any project for the period

  • Timesheet and project tracker to be updated weekly on all projects and demands

  • Weekly status updates to be completed on all projects and demands

    PRINCE2, APM or other Project Management certification preferred

  • Proven Project Management skills in a technical environment

  • Demonstrable experience in managing budgets and financial tracking

  • Demonstrable experience in delivering projects to client satisfaction

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office and MS Project

  • Able to understand, manage and track project schedules

  • Demonstrable change management skills

  • Past experience in a technical trade qualification in engineering (critical environments or other sector) would be an advantage

  • Skilled in the identification, analysis and management of project risks

  • Able to effectively manage project issues to successful closure

  • Experienced in delivering to set project quality criteria

  • Any other reasonable requests made by your line manager
