Full Job Description

The role involves delivering engineering design solutions, from concept to production, validation, and current engineering for body structures, including Underbody and Upper body, to meet the programme cost, time, and quality requirements, as well as the delivery of bespoke packages for current vehicles.

Further opportunities can arise within the product development engineering team, to lead the system delivery projects across the different engineering functions, as part of the next generation of Lotus vehicles.

The successful candidate will be required to support the engineering team manager to deliver technical solutions to project teams, within the required cost, quality, and timing targets. Individuals at this level would be expected to accept design ownership of a sub system / selection of parts and operate with an agreed level of autonomy and accountability, subject to experience and support provided.,

  • Manage the BoM for all systems.

  • Provide direction to design engineers for CAD model creations, including 3D design, GD&T, component, and assembly drawings.

  • Creation and management of the DFMEA for owned systems.

  • Management and execution of the system and component DVPs.

  • Management of control system deliveries.

  • Support the internal cross functional reviews.

  • Support the internal program reviews.

  • Lead and manage external supplier reviews.

  • Support the assembly line and build concern resolutions.

  • Deliver vehicle subsystems or components, within a given project.

  • Support to the generation of planning and proposal information.

  • Support to the department in achieving the requirements of quality systems, approval both internal and external.

  • Excursions to support system and vehicle testing.

  • Supplier visits - Short and long haul travel may be required in order to support project needs, frequency to be agreed between the Project Manager and Engineer.

  • Work outside of core hours may be required on an occasional basis, to support the programme delivery.

  • Responsible for collating and assessing engineering information, making recommendations with engineering evidence and presenting to the Engineering Group Manager for final decision making.

    HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering / Automotive Engineering.

  • Technical knowledge that covers the delivery of Body structures - under body and upper body.

  • Supplier Management.

  • DFMEA Management.

  • DVP Management.

  • Project engineer experience, delivering automotive commodities.

  • Enthusiasm, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Organisational ability.

  • Must be able to work effectively when under time pressures.


  • Desirable:

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.

  • IMechE accredited training.

  • Has experience that spans from design concept through the development process, to production launch and current engineering.

  • Knowledge and experience of riv-bonded aluminium structures and composite body panels.

  • CatiaV5 User.

  • Six sigma trained.

  • Lead engineer experience delivering automotive commodities.

  • Personal drive to deliver on time, to the required quality.
