Full Job Description

Are you a friendly, reliable, forward thinking individual? Always wanted to start a career within pharmacy but didn't know where to start? Our Trust is pleased to be in a position to recruit a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy technician (PTPT) to commence a fixed two year apprenticeships programme, within our Pharmacy department, based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital site. This position will work alongside our trained staff and other trainees within the department but will also involve travelling to the University of East Anglia (UEA) or other training sites within the Eastern Region and our other hospital sites within North West Anglia Foundation Trust. The ability to be able to travel to these locations will be essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake the apprenticeship training. This will include working in a supported environment to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete the qualification. This includes being trained in the competencies for Dispensing, storage and the distribution of medicines, patient counselling, ward medicine management and accredited checking and to be able to implement these into practice to meet the requirements of current legislation and professional standards. For our Trust, our PTPT's will have the opportunity to complete the Certificate in Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practise with the UEA and on completion register as a qualified Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Original copies of certificates/qualificationsmust be availableon both the interview and registration day.

  • 4 GCSE passes, or equivalent (grade C/5 or above, including Science, Mathematics and English). If these are not UK qualifications then an individual must prove equivalence at application (at own expense). To be eligible for the apprenticeship you must hold an English qualification from the UK, functional skills level 2 is acceptable.

  • Apprenticeship entry requirements must be met, which means that higher or overseas Pharmacy qualifications will mean ineligibility following current government guidance. This can also include degrees or equivalent where this is a significant overlap with the level 4 apprenticeship. This is decided by the course provider.

    As part of our commitment to supporting our employees we offer a range of benefits including:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement starting at 27 days and increasing to 29 days after five years of service and 33 days after 10 years of service, in addition to the national Bank Holidays (pro-rata for part time staff);

  • Membership of the NHS Pension Scheme:

  • Flexible working opportunities;

  • Enhanced hourly rates for unsociable hours e.g. night shifts, weekends, bank holidays;

  • Opportunities for career development and training to help you progress in your role;

  • Wellbeing support and activities to promote a healthy work environment;

  • Access to our in-house physiotherapy service;

  • On-site canteens offering subsidised meals;

  • Subsidised staff parking (currently free);

  • Free Stagecoach Bus Travel to and from work within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
