Full Job Description

To assist in the organisation of activities for a group of children as laid down on the activity plan.

To effectively communicate with parents and carers at the beginning and end of the day.

To keep child and volunteers records up to date.

To work in liaison with the Scheme Co-ordinator, Play Workers and Senior Play Workers to ensure the health and safety of children.

Report any concerns regarding child protection to the scheme co-ordinator in line with current safeguarding / child protection policies.

To implement equal opportunities policy and act quickly on any complaints.

To be jointly responsible for the upkeep and tidying away of equipment.

To undertake registers and head counts throughout the day.

To work with Senior Play Worker and Scheme Co-ordinator to actively work with any child who exhibits challenging behaviour.

To ensure all children are treated with dignity and respect.

Attend meetings and training events prior to the scheme beginning.

Join in with activities to help encourage children to participate.

Ensure children have their property labelled and returned to them at the end of each day.

To work with individual children which require additional support.

To act as bus escort where required.

Any other duties which may be deemed appropriate to the post.

· Relevant experience and/or qualifications in working with children and/or young people

· Ability to work flexibly

· Ability to work on your own initiative and without supervision

· Ability to work as part of a team

· Ability to relate to a wide cross section of people

· Ability to maintain confidentiality issues

· Awareness of Child Protection Issues

Desirable

· Qualification in working with children and young people or similar

· Experience in working with disabled children

· Experience in working with children with behavioural impairments

· Experience of working with volunteers

· Working knowledge of child protection

· Experience of working with groups of people

£11.44 - £11.75 an hour - Permanent, Zero hours contract, DASH Playschemes, our play and leisure schemes, run during school holidays and offer a range of fun and exciting activities and trips for children and young people aged 3 - 25 years.

Play Workers enable disabled and non-disabled children to access inclusive play opportunities in a fun and safe environment, whilst supporting individual requirements.

You must be over 18 years old and be available to work during the school holidays

Experienced and/or qualified or working towards a qualification in childcare / play work preferred

Based at premises in Darlington and outreach work to take children on outings.

Hours of work: 9.00am to 4.30pm (2 or 3 days per week) during school holidays

Rate of Pay Play Worker: £11.44 per hour plus £1.38 holiday allowance per hour

Rate of Pay Senior Play Worker: £11.75 per hour plus £1.42 holiday allowance per hour

Please note: You must be over 18 years old and be available to work during the school holidays
