Full Job Description

We currently have an opportunity to join our existing team as Phlebotomist on a 12 month fixed-term basis working up to 37.5 hours per week.

The Phlebotomy Service currently collects more than 250,000 blood samples per year. We provide a Phlebotomy Service to GP surgeries at Tadcaster and Sherburn Medical Centre's, Selby War Memorial Hospital and a new service at the Stadium, Monks Cross. The Phlebotomy Team also work in York Teaching Hospital on the wards and in our Outpatients Department.,

  • To collect blood samples from patients through venepuncture as requested by clinicians and other appropriately authorised doctors and health professionals.

  • To collect blood samples safely with due respect to the dignity of patients, and the needs of other clinical services.

  • To ensure blood samples are collected in appropriate containers, labelled correctly, and prepared and dispatched to relevant laboratory sections in a timely and correct manner.

  • To contribute to the provision of an efficient, high quality service.


  • The successful candidate will be expected to work at any of our service sites, therefore the ability to transport yourself to these locations during a normal working day is a requirement of this role.

    You will also be expected to cover our service hours on a rota basis which are currently 7.30am - 6pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am - 1pm on a Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

    We require enthusiastic and motivated team players with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    Previous blood taking experience is not essential, as full training will be provided.
