Full Job Description

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our team within the Pharmacy Production Unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital.

The Production Unit provides a comprehensive aseptic preparation service, including the preparation of injectable systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and parenteral (intravenous) nutrition for neonatal and adult patients across the health board.

This post will involve organising the Production service's day-to-day activities, manufacturing patient specific doses and undertaking accuracy checks of aseptically prepared products.

It is an exciting time for Aseptic staff as the Transforming Access to Medicines (TRAMS) NHS Wales programme to set up a shared Pharmacy Technical Service for Wales has recently been approved. TRAMS will transform how some of the most innovative and life-saving medicines including cancer therapies, intravenous antibiotics and parenteral nutrition, are prepared.

The role will involve coordinating workload and supervising staff within the Pharmacy Production team. Working as part of the team , the post holder will help maintain and develop the technical aspects of the service to ensure the items prepared meet the needs of our patients.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
