Full Job Description

Are you interested in making a real difference to someone's life?,

  • Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to young people with a diagnosis of autism

  • A commitment to a service which provides support to a vulnerable young person which is respectful and according to the individuals' wishes.

  • To facilitate and support the young person's in decision making, promoting choice, involvement and control.

  • Ensure the young person's needs are met through planning and reviewing.

  • Support the young persons' participation in social and leisure opportunities within the local community and with local support groups.

  • Interact and participate with the young person's development of self-help skills, supporting him to reach his potential for independence.

  • Provide stimulating play/communication opportunities to encourage the young person to develop and express himself.

  • A willingness to travel to support the delivery of the young person's needs

  • To report any problems/difficulties to mum.

  • To maintain confidentiality and to ensure that professional boundaries are observed when working with the young person and his family.

  • To always ensure the safety of the individual.

  • Encourage self-advocacy whenever possible and help the young person in his attempts to communicate his wishes and desires.

    The parent of a young adult is looking for a knowledgeable and understanding personal assistant that is well equipped with skills to deal with a person who lives with autism. You will need to demonstrate skills of building trusting relationships and excellent communication skills to support this person effectively. Alex has a range of interests such as Marvel and DC movies and video games, Lego collecting and building, bowling and the gym. He also enjoys going to youth group and volunteering with them. He has a dog and 4 cats., If needs be, if the young person is unable to articulate for himself, in a sensitive and reassuring way be prepared to speak up for him, promoting his known views and preferences.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • To understand the principles of empowerment and the ability to support the young person to exercise choice and control over all aspects of his life.

  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels
