Full Job Description

Full time and part time positions available. The patient services assistant role will involve working as part of an integrated team, guided by local and trust policy and procedures.

To carry out non-nursing duties as delegated by the registered nurse, using own initiative within the level of competence expected for the role.

To assist and support members of the multi professional team in order to provide a high standard of patient centred care whilst demonstrating care and compassion whilst ensuring that patients needs are met.

Main duties of the job

The PSA will focus on supporting the nutrition needs of patients, this will include :

They will take on the role of nutrition coordinator' at mealtimes liaising with nursing staff to ensure that patients are sat out or up and ready to eat.

The PSA will ensure that patients have hand hygiene wipes available and offer help where needed, ensure the correct cutlery and aids are available and that the red tray' system is implemented.

Assisting patients at mealtimes and helping them with food where appropriate.

Working alongside nursing staff to promote first a drink' helping patients with drinks to support hydration.

Completing menus for all patients, offering help where required and ensuring that correct menus (including special diets, snack menus, finger food etc.) are ordered.

Completion of food and fluid charts, escalating concerns to nursing staff.

Good basic education - Reading and writing skills plus basic numeric skills
