Full Job Description

  • Under the guidance of the Activities Manager, supervise and provide any assistance that is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students during their swimming sessions at the pool.

  • Motivate and encourage students to take an active part in the programme.

  • Supervise and look after the safety and welfare of students., 1. To have read and understood the staff handbook and be fully conversant with our policies for the welfare and protection of children. At all times when on duty, staff are responsible for the care, welfare and safety of students whilst ensuring they are following school rules.

    • 2. To prepare for swimming sessions thoroughly. Preparation time can be considerable if you are to ensure the success of the timetabled session. This involves:
  • Comprehensive planning and promoting of the activity

  • Considering all potential hazards concerning Health & Safety according to guidelines laid down and making necessary provisions to avoid accidents.

  • Knowing necessary instructions/directions before session start time.

  • Having all equipment, if appropriate, set up before students arrive

  • Packing away all equipment and materials and tidying the activity space.


    • 3. To actively encourage the involvement of students in the swimming activity, leading by example.
    4. When running an activity, to supervise other staff and encourage them to take a full and active part.
    5. To ensure that listed students are present at the sessions and to maintain accurate registers of their attendance.
    6. To look after the equipment and ensure it is returned at the end of each activity.
    7. To provide feedback on the sessions to the Activities Manager/Senior Activity Leader
    8. To supervise student behaviour inside and outside the swimming pool
    9. To assist in closing the swimming pool and returning equipment.
    10. Additional duties as required.

    Essential
    Level of spoken and written English equivalent to CEF level C1/CAE/IELTS 7.0
    To have a valid lifeguarding certificate
    Interested in, and able to organise activities such as drama, arts & crafts, talent shows etc.
    Able to adapt quickly to change and be flexible
    Effective communicator
    Flexible and a team player
    Able to motivate and encourage large groups of children and teenagers
    Able to address large groups of young people
    Be 18 years of age or over
    Enthusiastic
    Willing to carry out manual duties
    Actively enjoy spending time with children/teenagers

    Desirable
    Qualifications in related sw
    Coaching/arts teaching qualification

  • Current First Aid certificate

  • Current RLSS lifesavers qualification

  • Previous summer school experience
    Experience of working with children and/or teenagers
    Competent sports/games person with knowledge of the rules and organisation of one or more sports
