Applications are invited for a 12-month, full time, ENT Clinical Teaching Fellow Post (STR1/2 Equivalent).

This is a collaboration post combining duties and commitments at Norwich Medical School and Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. The post will encompass both clinical commitments within the ENT department and Teaching commitments for Undergraduate Medical Students based at the Norwich Medical School.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to experience working in a busy teaching hospital ENT department. The balance between teaching and clinical work will be roughly 50:50 based on the requirements of the departments. The amount of time spent in the teaching role will vary throughout the year, being dependent on the undergraduate curriculum needs.

As part of the University of East Anglia you will be required to plan and deliver teaching to undergraduates on ENT topics. These will encompass seminar style teaching, small group sessions and bedside teaching. Assisting in the planning and running of exams as well as the assessing of medical students will be undertaken with the supervision of the relevant Module Leads and Clinical Skills Lead.

Main duties of the job

The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals. The division of clinical and teaching commitments will be roughly 50:50.

Teaching duties/commitments:The post holder will be expected to teach during secondary care weeks where the department hosts undergraduate students from the UEA Norwich Medical School. It is expected that the post holder will not have clinical duties during these weeks to optimize availability for undergraduate teaching.

Clinical commitments:The post holder is expected to provide care to Ear, Nose and Throat patients as well as take part in the combined ENT/Plastics out of hours Tier 1 on-call service. The routine ENT duties will include participation in ward rounds, Emergency ENT SHO clinics, ward-based work.

There will be opportunities to attend routine ENT clinics, specialist clinics and operating theatre sessions.

The post holder is expected to provide care to Ear, Nose and Throat patients as well as take part in the combined ENT/Plastics out of hours Tier 1 on-call service. The candidate will be part of a team providing management of ENT in-patients and the duties will include ward cover, SHO emergency clinics as well as the participation in the on-call rota. Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is a teaching hospital and the post-holder may be expected participate in undergraduate teaching to medical students.

  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practice

  • MBBS or equivalent

    Essential
  • Applicants who are Nationals from another European country or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to training in the National Health Service.

  • Experience in Ear, Nose & Throat

  • Previous paid NHS employment


  • Desirable
  • Publications in Educational or Medical peer reviewed journals.

  • Experience in research or teaching.

  • Previous ENT experience, Good communicator.

  • Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Ability to time manage and be organized., Flexible outlook on working hours.

  • Ability to work across sites when public transport may not be available
