Full Job Description

CTMUHB would like to invite applications for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine, with an interest in a specialty of choice (Research, Medical education and Ultrasound). The post will combine working in the Emergency Department (ED) at Prince Charles Hospital (PCH) on the junior Rota with weekly dedicated teaching sessions. The post will be based in Prince Charles Hospital. We envisage the split for this post at 80% in Emergency Medicine and 20% Specialty Interest., Junior Clinical Fellow in the Emergency Medicine with specialist interest at PCH.

We are delighted to advertise a new post in the Emergency Department at PCH: This will be for up to 6 months with a possible 6 month extension.

80% Junior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine The post will offer the candidates opportunities for career development, through Life Support courses, Clinical Audit, Grand Round Presentations, Complaints Management, development and/or updating of Care Pathways, support and mentoring of medical students, bedside ultrasound and a bespoke junior weekly consultant lead teaching programme.

The working pattern of Emergency Medicine

  • Contribute to the Emergency service at Prince Charles Hospital

  • Participate in the initial assessment, treatment, referral and disposition of patients attending the Emergency Department.

  • Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties

  • Work a shift pattern including nights and weekends.

  • To participate in clinical audit and activities.

  • To attend regular teaching and complete e-Learning objectives

    Knowledge of and use of the Welsh language is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply., Work Experience

  • Previous UK NHS experience required. Needs to be working at FP3 level or above. Clinical observer / attachment are unacceptable

    Clinical: Roles & responsibilities include co-operation in the management and treatment of all patients attending the Emergency Department, working autonomously but with supervision provided by the consultant staff.

    The appointment will be in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales).

  • The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC prior to taking up the post.

  • Membership of a Medical Defence / Protection society is encouraged but not mandatory.

  • The post is subject to a medical examination and documentation of Hepatitis B Status.


  • Occasional Emergencies

    The doctor accepts that he will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with his colleagues both senior and junior. It has been agreed between the professions and the department that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptional, and, in particular, that clinical staff should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
