Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Highways Operative to our Highways Service. The right candidate will be hard-working, experienced, and committed, as the service we provide continues to grow and develop, and we are looking for someone who can ensure all work activities are carried out with a focus on performance, safety and quality.

You will be responsible for a wide range of highways maintenance and construction type work, including highway construction, traffic management on single/dual carriageways, ditch clearing, and minor drainage works, and reactive maintenance and emergency call outs.

As well as this, there will be the requirement of carrying out on site assessments to solve or design highway related issues, and to carry our grounds maintenance work.You will also provide support Team Leaders in the inspection and repair of the highway network and by responding to service requests., Our interview process accommodates both in-person and virtual formats, with tailored options discussed upon invitation to the interview stage.If you are invited to a virtual interview, this will preferably be undertaken using the Microsoft Teams software, which is currently free for new users. However, should you encounter any challenges accessing this technology, we are open to discussing alternative arrangements prior to the scheduled interviews. Your comfort and convenience are of utmost importance to us.

The successful candidate for this role will be driven, flexible and have a high level of attention to detail, ensuring all work is completed to the expected quality. A full UK Driving Licence is essential, as well as experience in a relevant field with the use of plant and equipment associated with the role. This is a customer focused service, so personal conduct is key, as is good levels of communication.

We are also looking for someone who can adapt well to the demands of the service, who can travel throughout Cumbria and surrounding areas, and is willing to take part in winter maintenance function or other out of hour's functions.
