Full Job Description

As sport at Wimbledon High continues to flourish, this position offers an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role ensuring that the provision for our most able sportswomen is sector leading.

As Head of Performance Sport, you will lead and drive forward the development of provision for sport scholars and elite athletes in the continued pursuit of excellence. Working with the Director of Sport, you will implement plans for the strategic development of sport and facilities at the school, as well as ensure the development of a robust programme of Sport Science (Physiology, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning and Psychology) is at the heart of the education.

You will also lead and manage our Heads of Sport (specifically Cricket, Hockey, Netball and Rowing) working with staff to promote excellence in teaching and learning across the school.

Before fully assuming the role of Head of Performance Sport in 2025, you will be required to act as the Director of Sport, covering a period of maternity leave.

As, Acting Director of Sport, you will lead the development of sport and implement a school wide strategy based on the principles of "sport for all". You will assume responsibility for all aspects of teaching and learning in PE and games, encouraging participation and engagement with sport throughout the school.

You will oversee a vibrant co-curricular programme which will include sports fixtures, team squads, additional PE/fitness options, tours, trips and other activities beyond the curriculum. You will also lead and manage the Sports Department on a day-to-day basis, working with colleagues to ensure the efficiency of the department.

About you

You will be an energetic and enthusiastic individual, who is ideally a specialist in one of our competitive sports, although applications from all specialisms are welcome. Proven teaching experience at a secondary level is essential, along with experience of leading and managing staff. You will also be committed to after-school practices and Saturday morning sport across all three terms.

As a PE specialist, you will be passionate about sport and will be committed to providing an exciting sports provision.
