Full Job Description

Some of the day-to-day responsibilities include:-

  • Develop and maintain the grounds, among other tasks, cutting and mowing, and treating with chemicals (weed-killing and fertilising)

  • Maintain the ancillary areas (including paths), including clearing leaves and other debris, moss killing, weed-killing, and hedge, shrub and tree planting, pruning, cutting and felling. You are responsible for all flower beds and lawns, ensuring that they are kept to the highest possible standard and condition.

  • Maintenance and clearing of all storm drains, gulley's and ground level drains. Ensuring all external signage is clean, visible and in good condition

  • Fencing. Ensuring that all school fencing is safe and secure, replacing damaged fencing, and installation of new

  • Snow and ice clearance in designated areas when necessary. This may have to be done at periods prior to the start of the school day when necessary to ensure that the school can function effectively at the start of the day. Additionally, ensuring the maintenance and care of footpaths and walkways including salting and gritting during cold weather spells

  • Maintenance of grounds machinery. You are to ensure that all the grounds and garden machinery is kept well maintained and safe

  • Carry out any reasonable request by Line Management or Senior Leadership Team

  • Ensure you follow all risk assessments, method statements, conducting all works in a safe manner, utilising all the provided PPE equipment

  • To ensure safe and effective use, maintenance and security of the grounds plant and gardening equipment. Ensure records of all machinery, tools and equipment including details of servicing, repair and breakages

  • Ensure the safe and secure storage, management and use of consumables such as fuel, oils and lubricants, chemicals and seed, and equipment and tools, both mechanical and manual

  • You are to carry out such other duties as the School may reasonably from time to time, communicated to you either orally or in writing. This will include assisting the Estates Team with tasks around the School where additional manpower is needed

  • You will also actively provide support for Young People in horticultural based work placement and life skill training.

  • Duties of the Grounds Person may vary from time to time as different projects and demands on the department develop.

  • Responsible for the safe and effective use, maintenance and security of the grounds plant and gardening equipment. You should maintain records of all machinery, tools and equipment including details of servicing, repair and breakages

  • Working with the Head of Service Management to prepare and manage the Grounds department budget

    Prior's Court was set up by Founding Patron Dame Stephanie Shirley, whose vision of a centre of excellence for children with autism became reality with the opening of Prior's Court School in 1999. We have since grown to support around 80 young people with autism aged between 5-25 years with the opening of Prior's Court Young Adult Provision in 2011.

    Since opening, our support team has grown from around 20 to 500 and we have built a reputation as a leading edge educational, vocational, and residential facility for young people with autism. We are situated on 50 acres of parkland with various facilities including accommodation for our young people, a school with a wide range of facilities and offices, All positions at the school are subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check, references and receipt of the appropriate Right to Work documents.
