Job profile;

The Gardener is part of the caring team and as such works with other staff to promote and maintain the environment and safety of the service users in and around the home. The position involves the weeding, planting, pruning and watering as well as the general maintenance and appearance of the grounds, gardens and buildings, striving to create a smart and aesthetically pleasing environment that is both safe and secure for service users, staff and visitors.

Main duties:

-Promote the Company Mission Statement at all times
-Maintain and develop the gardens of the Home
-Responsible for grass cutting, emptying bins, weed control and leaf raking.
-Planting new trees, flowers and various plants
-Driving plant vehicles, small diggers where needed
-Maintenance of plants, tubs and baskets
-Ensuring that all garden equipment is correctly maintained and serviced
-Seeding plants and watering them at the correct times
-Clearing rubbish and litter away from the gardens and grounds
-Producing various designs and layouts of garden landscapes
-Laying down paving and concrete slabs to create walkways
-Constructing fences, walls and other decorative features
-Sourcing the cheapest materials, plants and trees for the Company in line with allocated budget
-Sourcing appropriate and competitive contractors for tasks outside the scope of the role, i.e. Tree Surgery etc.
-Maintaining the garden furniture and ensuring this remains fit for use.
-Reporting any defects to the Care Manager in a timely and appropriate manner
-Ensuring a safe working environment for everyone working in or using the garden
-Ensuring the basic servicing and repairs are completed for all garden machinery in line with manufacturer's guidance and in accordance with Health and Safety
-To comply with Company Policy and Procedure in line with Health and Safety at all times.
-To be aware of and use as appropriate, any protective PPE required
-To risk assess any allocated task prior to completion to ensure that safety is maintained and risk minimised
-To assist and support the Home's Maintenance Person in any other Maintenance Duties
-In the absence of the Maintenance Person to provide Maintenance support to the Home
-In the absence of or in conjunction with Care Staff, support service users as required
-To attend First Aid at Work appointed training

Communication:

-Maintain confidentiality at all times in relation to the relevant data protection legislation
-Develop and maintain a good rapport with Service Users, Relatives and other visitors, remaining courteous and polite at all times
-When dealing with any enquiries, ensure professionalism at all times and that any messages are dealt with effectively
- Ensure the safe use of equipment and report any defects to the Person in Charge
-Report any incidents involving service users, staff or visitors immediately to the Person in Charge
-Attend Staff meetings as required
-Ensure any reports are written in a timely manner and in line with statutory requirements
-Understand the importance of correct record management and own personal responsibilities in maintaining this through passwords, storage of documentation, and sharing information ( both paper based or on electronic systems).
-Report breeches of records security to line manager or the Caldicott Guardian.

General:

-To be aware of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and your own responsibilities under this Act.
-To participate in training programs which may be required either by law or Company Policy and ensure that these remain up to date and compliant
-To report for duty at the correct time in accordance with off duty rota. Endeavour to cover colleagues' duties in times of sickness and holidays
-To report for duty in a clean, tidy uniform and following the dress code as set out in the Employee Handbook, ensuring protective clothing is worn as required
-To abide by the Home's Employee Handbook and Company Policies and Procedures
-To be flexible and adaptable in participating in other jobs which are necessary for the smooth running of the home and the safety of the Service Users
-To have an understanding of requirements detailed in Health and Social Care Act 2008 in line with standards set by the Regulators
-Support the Care Manager with the Home's marketing plan
-Promote, ensure and maintain the good reputation of the Care Home and the Company
-Comply with company policy and procedure in relation to infection control and prevention
-Ensure that the security of the Care Home is maintained at all times
-Comply with company policy and procedure in relation to infection control and prevention
-Ensure that all equipment and tools used are maintained safely in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and that these are locked away following use
-To work within the company's Information Governance policies in order maintain security of personal and sensitive data
