The role will involve:

  • Managing all engineering, stores and cleaning staff at the garage, to include staffing levels meet targets and budget, recruitment of suitably qualified engineering staff, absence and performance management, ensuring communication is two-way, relevant and understood by all.

  • Directly responsible for an effective and efficient garage engineering operation in line with Company targets, including fleet management, availability/reliability, record maintenance, managing contractors.

  • Ensuring all premises, vehicles and garage staff adhere to the Health and Safety standards required by the Company and legislation.

  • Ensuring financial budgets and targets are met and improved on.

  • Having a strategic outlook on how to improve business performance, with awareness of competitor activity and maintaining a conducive and productive relationship with the Union.

    Excellent communication skills

  • Knowledge of engineering procedures and health and safety legislation

  • Have good knowledge of engineering technical skills

  • Previous experience of developing and managing staff

  • Time served apprenticeship or demonstrable work history

  • Capable of demonstrating right first-time diagnosis and repair

  • Capable of carrying out Root Causes Analysis and enact effective solutions/repairs

  • High level of commercial awareness (focus on operational costs and efficiencies)

  • Understanding of an Oracle or similar operational data system where the data is used daily to improve performance and maintain cost levels in line with budget.

  • Bus or similar transport engineering background is essential

  • IEng / CMgr accreditation is desirable

  • Full UK driving license (6 points or less) is essential

  • Ability to pass fit for a PCV pre-employment medical is essential
