Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

The Bramford to Twinsted Network Optimisation (BTNO) scheme is a multi-£100m mega-project building new HV transmission substations, overhead lines and cables. National Grid have a portfolio of these large-scale infrastructure projects within the East Coast Onshore team, and BTNO is one of the first of these to enter the construction phase.

We are looking for Project Managers across 3 different grades to support the BTNO project. Our work is truly cross-discipline with significant elements of civil, mechanical and electrical engineering - candidates with a breadth of cross-sector experience are encouraged to apply.

We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

About You

We look to recruit experience from a variety of construction project backgrounds. The roles require a hybrid approach with a mix of home, site and office working in Bury St Edmunds.

Lead EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Project Managers

  • This is a lead project management role responsible for the delivery of complex high value projects, candidates demonstrate significant experience in project development and delivery of schemes safely, on time and to budget.

  • Lead EPC PMs have a depth of experience of managing contracts, working with technical specifications and understanding of H&S on sites and CDM regulations.

  • They manage the National Grid project management processes, and apply experience and judgement to make the time/cost/quality decisions to achieve project success.

  • As an experienced Project Manager, you will support and mentor the wider team to develop capability and ensure resilience.


  • EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Project Managers

  • This is a project management role responsible for the delivery of small discrete projects or packages of larger works. You will be able to demonstrate experience in project development and/or delivery of schemes safely, on time and to budget.

  • EPC PMs can manage contracts, work with technical specifications and understand the detail of H&S on construction sites.

  • EPC PMs manage the National Grid project pathway and apply their judgement to make the time/cost/quality decisions, supported by the wider BTNO team.

  • EPC PMs will be supported to develop in role with some excellent training (both in-house and external) and exposure to the wider electricity transmission industry., Act as the decision-maker for your element of this huge project, balancing time, cost and risk to manage our contractors and consultants to deliver some truely Nationally Significant Infrastructure.

  • Lead or directly support the National Grid Project Management processes through project investment gates.

  • Ensure internal and contractor compliance with Health & Safety, CDM & Environmental legislation as well as adherence National Grid SHES standards,

  • Dependant on level, define the tasks for consultant teams and supporting functions, then monitoring their progress against their outputs. PMs hold financial responsibility for their elements of the project.

  • Provide regular project status reports giving accurate financial forecasting, SHESQ performance, milestone progress & risk management data.

  • Act as the NEC Project Manager (or equivalent for other contract types).

    Starting salaries range from £45,000 - £75,000, with an additional market supplement of £4,500 for those with greater construction industry experience. All roles qualify for a job-requirement vehicle chosen from a excellent range of modern EV and Hybrid types.

    Additional to your base salary and job requirement vehicle, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
