Geothermal Engineering Ltd (GEL) is looking to recruit a highly motivated, permanent, full-time Community Engagement & Education Officer, to join our growing team, pioneering geothermal power development in the UK. This exciting opportunity has been created to reinforce the success of our existing community engagement activities and support our company expansion. The role will mostly be based at the United Downs Geothermal site near Redruth, but the successful applicant must be willing to travel across Cornwall for community/education events and presentations., The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties, working with the Community Engagement & Education Manager and independently. These may include, but not be limited to:
Communication

  • Attending and contributing to regular staff meetings and briefings to remain

  • fully aware of the company's activities.
  • Maintain an effective channel of communication with GEL Directors, the

  • Community Engagement & Education Manager, and other colleagues to
    provide feedback from community engagement events and meetings.
  • Liaise with external agencies and businesses, to form strong working

  • relationships and to be one of the key links between them and GEL.
  • Keep regular contact and establish constructive relationships within the

  • community and educational facilities, to keep them informed of GEL's latest
    developments in order to encourage support and involvement.
  • Welcome visitors, schools and community groups to GEL's site and actively

  • engage during their visit to provide an informative, positive experience.

    Administration

  • Support the Community Engagement & Education Manager with

  • administration, reporting, diary management and bookings.
  • Manage own diary, bookings and workload whilst meeting deadlines.

  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of community engagement activities and

  • report feedback to senior management.
  • Develop educational material and existing resources to reflect current school

  • curriculum topics.
  • Research details of community events, relevant groups and networking

  • opportunities, and keep up to date records of contacts.
  • Develop and produce presentation literature, digitally and in paper format, for

  • both internal and external use, including community newsletters.
  • Manage a library of key imagery and information. Photographing key

  • projects/events to use in publications, social media, company website and
    marketing material.
  • Ensuring high quality production of both internal and external publications,

  • emails, presentation material and branding.
  • Maintain stock resources and reordering in accordance with company

  • procurement procedures.
  • Work in line with relevant operating policies, procedures and public relations

  • guidelines, whilst contributing to the overall ethos of GEL.
  • Completion of GEL timesheets, paperwork and submit on time.


  • Presentations (Public Speaking) / Customer Service

  • Deliver informative presentations and speeches about GEL to a live audience

  • across all ages and diversities, in an engaging and innovative way to
    encourage and develop motivational learning/understanding.
  • Provide a high level of customer service, behaving in a respectful, courteous,

  • and polite manner to internal and external contacts and clients, when
    representing GEL.
  • Ambassador for GEL at organised events and networking meetings, to

  • increase company awareness and community engagement.

    Additional ad hoc duties as and when required., Location: The role will primarily be based at the GEL office on the United Downs Industrial Estate near Redruth, Cornwall. There will be travelling to community or education events most weeks.

    Standard Hours: 37.5 hours a week. There will be the need for flexibility to accommodate community and education events outside of these times.

    Essential
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.

  • Strong communication skills - verbal and written.

  • Confident when speaking in public.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when required (with time off in lieu)

  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to work on own or as part of a team.

  • Able to stay calm in any situation.

  • Excellent influencing skills to confidently engage with internal and external

  • stakeholders also a wide range of diverse audiences.
  • Keen interest in learning about renewable energy and associated technology.

  • Ability to think creatively.

  • Time management skills

  • A full UK driving license.


  • Desirable
  • Previous experience in working with community groups, young people or in a

  • public facing role.
  • Event organisation experience

  • Knowledge of local area

  • At least three years of suitable prior experience, Disability Confident

    Salary: £24k - £28k per annum, subject to experience, plus benefits
