Full Job Description

We're looking for a Communications and Media Officer to bring fresh ideas, energy and expertise in the evolution of our communications, working with our Fundraising team to deliver on our targets. If you love people, and love digital, if you thrive on digital storytelling, designing and video creation, if you write effectively, and can build productive relationships with staff, supporters and volunteers, you are already on the way to finding your place in our charity.

You will be part of a team delivering and developing our internal and external communications. You will have the opportunity to oversee on our fundraising-focused social media, produce email marketing campaigns, get hands on with content and drive engagement with the wider community, and make a difference!

The Opportunity

Our Communications and Media Officer, with the support of our Communications Manager, will work alongside our fundraising teams to create engaging content to connect with donors and fundraisers, delivering an effective supporter experience that reflects the Hospice's values and ambitions. You will help fuel our 'ideas culture' (no idea is a bad idea!).

Responding dynamically, you will support our analytical, data-driven approach with a digital-first commitment. This role ensures fundraising-comms activity is accurate, timely and authentic. In turn, we'll be right here to support your development

  • Good level of education overall; Academic qualifications including GCSEs and A-Levels to demonstrate media, digital design and writing skills

  • Demonstrable social media skills

  • Work experience in a marketing, digital communications environment with the ability to create strong digital content, plus writing and copy-editing skills

  • Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and digital

  • Experience of using various content creation platforms

  • Act as an ambassador for the Hospice at all times #ProudToWorkAtHoSF


  • It would be great to haves
  • Experience of creating email marketing campaigns and making website updates (desirable)

  • Able to work on your own initiative and prioritise effectively

  • Well organised with the ability to manage a number of on-going tasks and prioritise effectively

  • Energetic, resourceful, self-motivated

  • Hold a full UK driver's licence with your own vehicle and/or the ability to travel if required by the role

    We rely on the community for over 80% of our funding and this role plays a vital part in helping to inspire fundraisers and donors. Our online donations are up 48% against pre-pandemic levels, we've grown our social media following by 30%, developed our email marketing engagement, and in total voluntary fundraising currently contributes over £2.2million towards funding our care.

  • Your internal & external contacts will include all Employees, Volunteers, Trustees and Patrons, plus members of the general public and external organisations/suppliers.

  • The post-holder will come into contact with emotional circumstances, through speaking to staff, volunteers and patients and or information. The post holder will frequently be required to change from one activity to another to meet the changing needs of the service.

  • You will be expected to comply with Health and Safety, Fire and Infection Control regulations and Hospice policies. You will need to complete all mandatory training.
