Full Job Description

MWH Treatment is looking to strengthen our Commercial team team with a Commercial Manager / Commercial & Performance Lead for our Anglian water region on the Cambridge relocation project. Based in the Peterborough & Cambridge area, sitting on the project's Senior Leadership Team, you'll act as the commercial conscious and voice of reason, you'll support our projects environmental and social initiatives whilst ensuring we are cost efficient throughout. By acting as a visible and inspiring leader, you'll provide commercial transparency to the team and our partner organisations to drive performance towards our goals and objectives.
The Project

The Cambridge relocation project is the design & build of a modern, low carbon waste water treatment plant to provide vital services for the community and environment which will recycle water and nutrients, produce green energy and help Greater Cambridge to grow sustainably.

Known as the Cambridge Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Relocation Project, Anglian Water will work with our partners, including ourselves MMB & Skanska to help deliver this fantastic opportunity for the Greater Cambridgeshire area. The relocation would make the site of the existing WWTP available to form part of the development of a new low-carbon city district, known as North East Cambridge. The site at Cowley Road, is Cambridge's last major brownfield site, and the wider North East Cambridge district proposals envisage creating around 8,350 homes and 15,000 jobs over the next 20 years.,

  • Commercial and Finance Control: Manage project budgets, financial forecasts, and cost control measures to ensure efficient resource allocation and adherence to financial targets. Develop strategies to mitigate commercial risks and optimize project profitability.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and motivate a team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to achieve project objectives. Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture focused on excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Commercial Planning: Develop and implement comprehensive commercial plans aligned with project goals and company objectives. Identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue enhancement, and value creation throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Stakeholder Management: Deliver first class stakeholder management and engagement by providing clear, transparent and timely updates whilst championing collaboration and knowledge sharing/ transfer.

  • Strategy: Lead and develop the strategy for the contracted works and the procurement procedures for the package scope, quantification, tender method, negotiation and subcontract documentation.

  • Collaboration: Deliver leading edge collaborative commercial processes by ensuring teams are synchronised and aligned in their processes and approaches to deliver the highest standards and consistently.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and best practices within the project team. Identify areas for process optimization, efficiency gains, and performance enhancement to deliver superior results.

  • Ideally Chartered or working towards Chartered status.

  • Proven experience in major projects as the Commercial Lead with a focus on commercial and financial management.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve excellence.

  • Excellent analytical abilities with a strategic mindset and a keen eye for detail.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing major complex projects, delivering results on time and within budget.

  • Sound knowledge of commercial and contractual frameworks, including NEC contracts and project finance principles.

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

  • Commitment to safety, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
