Full Job Description

  • Experience with autism. mental health, learning disabilities and managing low level behaviours of concern

  • To support members in all aspects of their daily lives in a positive and caring manner, ensuring that respect, choice, independence, inclusion, equal opportunities, and privacy are always maintained.

  • Supporting & encouraging the development of personal skills through hobbies and interests

  • To ensure petty cash receipts are retained for financial auditing records.

  • To comply with all risk assessments in place.

  • To follow session plans and activities set by lead support workers and Petty Pool in the Community Coordinators

  • Can adapt to challenging and changing situations.

  • Be approachable, friendly, proactive, and engaging.

  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm along with influencing and motivational skills

  • The ability top cope with and remain calm in challenging and demanding situations.

  • Support members in groups or on a 1:1 basis as required.

  • Support in daily activities and sessions according to the Lead support worker's instructions.

  • Help and support members with their communication needs and building relationships with peers.

  • Assist the lead support worker in maintaining a stimulating, progressive environment.

  • Assist members in developing social skills, (inc. making conversation, resolving disputes etc.)

  • Administer First Aid if required (or to undertake a First Aid qualification if currently unqualified)

  • Report and log member incidents allowing a comprehensive case of additional support to be compiled.

  • Comply with Safeguarding and Prevent policy and procedures at all times, ensuring the safety of all members.

  • Demonstrate consistent confidentiality in all matters concerning members.

  • Work collaboratively with other support workers, working as part of a team, sharing ideas and experience.

  • Take part in training and development as required by the organisation

  • Drive Petty Pool vehicles, including mini buses (where appropriate) to support members on external trips, visits and activities.

  • Be flexible and easily able to adapt to changes in duties, routine and circumstances.

  • Administer of medication as and when required.

    Desirable
  • Experience in Travel training

  • Hold or be working towards a Learning Support qualification

  • Hold or be working towards a Basic First Aid Certificate

  • Experience of people with learning disabilities

  • Experience of working within Further Education

  • English and Maths GCSE or equivalent at grade C or above, Excellent interpersonal skills and effective member of the team

  • Good organisational skills

  • Ability to use IT skills to support students

  • Ability to keep accurate and up to date records

  • Full clean Driving Licence (Car)

    Petty Pool Vocational College, based in Sandiway, near Northwich offers 16-19 Study Programmes and Supported Internships into employment for up to 100 students with learning disabilities within Hospitality & Catering, Hotel & Tourism, Horticulture, Animal Care, Retail, IT, Employability, Prep for Work and Independent Living Skills.

  • Petty Pool in the Community is a service open to our members with learning disabilities outside education, funded via personalised budgets. This additional offer to Petty Pool will see our members accessing additional support on an intensive basis to look at:
  • Independent living including travel training.

  • Community activities
