Full Job Description

  • The Assistant Finance Business Partner (FBP) will be a key member of the Aviation market leadership Team; supporting the markets Senior FBP and providing evidence-based insights to the business leadership in pursuit of performance goals.

  • Month-end results planning, review and reporting on management accounts.

  • Regular review of project forecasts and liaising with project managers to ensure detailed understanding of individual projects' financial performance.

  • Delivery of a performance appraisal model focused on sales and risk management of projects.

  • Supporting in the preparation of operational budgets and quarterly forecasts.

  • Helping with the management of cash-flow; monitoring performance and providing support to the business, as well as discussions with the central teams regarding billing and debt collection.

  • Assisting with pricing and bid support to project managers and directors for opportunities, including review of bid models and preparation of project/framework rates.

  • Liaison with group functions as appropriate on tax, treasury, commercial, cosec and accounting issues.

  • Overhead control relating to the market.

  • Contribution towards accounting for Joint Ventures and the management of related cash processes and project bank accounts.

  • Ad hoc tasks and support to the Aviation Senior FBP and wider Infrastructure finance team.

  • Ownership of periodic financial reporting requests and internal process returns, for the Infrastructure division and divisional Finance Director.

  • Involvement with wider AtkinsRéalis financial improvement initiatives and transformational changes.

    A good understanding of preparing and reviewing management accounts.

  • Enthusiastic to learn about and appreciate, the financial requirements and processes within a large engineering consultancy market.

  • Great people management and inter-personal skills; and comfortable in dealing with senior colleagues.

  • Excellent Excel spreadsheet skills and exposure to Power BI.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritise own workload.

  • Strong sense of ownership, drive and ability to deliver results.

  • Great attention to detail.

  • Good team player with positive attitude.

  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills with an ability to analyse information and processes.

  • Knowledge and experience of the following would be an advantage: JD Edwards; Oracle EBS; Hyperion HFM; PBCS.

  • Experience of working in an accounting function, especially an engineering consultancy, would be a significant advantage.


  • This role would be suitable for an individual that has recently graduated with a relevant accounting degree or qualified to a similar level through working experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree - Preferably in Accounting/Finance/Business related field of study.

  • Part qualified and/or an interest in obtaining an accounting qualification - ACCA/CA/CIMA.
